New Framing Projects

Gary's Extension

With a growing family Gary decided to build his own extension. Gary being the guy he is decided to hand plane the whole thing too! It's all local oak too from a sawmill in Pakenham and sourced from Gipping Wood. Over lunch break one day we were discussing ideas and I mentioned "Serlio" or reciprocating floors; basically the main beams are not as long as the whole width and thus join into one another at right angles and when all are jointed together the floor frame becomes rigid by virtue of it's partners and it doesn't fall down. It's funny how these discussions have a habit of running away with themselves because before I knew it gary was working up 3D models of such a floor frame and trying to see if it would work in his extension frame! With careful jointing and some forward planning it wasn't so bad to assemble on site and now it's up it's looking great! Well done Gary!
