Repair Projects

Maybush Cottage, Haughley

This frame from the end of the 16th century/beginning of the 17th century had some decay to its frame and had been unoccupied for over 40 years. In 2005 a fire destroyed the roof so in the summer of 2006 we started our programme of repairs. After three months of hard work we had repaired the decayed and partly missing wall/floor frames and replaced the missing roof. To reconstruct the roof we had photos from before and after the fire as well as a few charred rafter remnants for joinery details and positions. A sad tale but a truly rewarding project for us all.
