New Framing Projects

Colchester Castle Museum

In 1995 Colchester Museum Services asked Rick to work on the re-display of their collection of buildings components. Over the years many ancient buildings had been demolished in the town and any remarkable components were often donated to the museum. Consequently the display had evolved in a rather haphazard manner so all items were disassembled and re displayed in a new layout.

The facade of the shop of a notable Colchester apothecary was recreated using a carved corner post from the collection. The framing details were taken from ancient shopfronts surveyed within the town and the exterior was painted with red ochre; the corner post had evidence of having been part of a brightly decorated building.
