New Framing Projects
Glazed conservatory
We finally took the plunge and decided to do our own green oak framed conservatory at our new address. It has been a bit of an eye opener in some respects as I have never played the client before! We had a few people let us down and suffered a few delays but in the end we have something to be very proud of.
The frame incorporates a few subtle and different details that we felt would be fun to do; tapered primary rafters with backing cuts on the hips and gently curved tie beams with braced king posts above. The king post trusses allowed us to easily incorporate a ridge purlin that supports the glazing at the apex and while the walls are direct glazed on the roof we used the exitex system for simplicity. The idea was to create a frame that almost appeared to be unglazed and allow us to feel as though we were almost within the garden rather than in the house. There are of course a few things I would do differently now and it has given me lots of tips and ideas to pass on to clients but it is still a great frame and a lovely building to be in.
